    2003 225 hpdi #2 cylinder blown, anyone else had this problem.

    This motor was bought new and always had ring free and good gas. Hydrotec has the motor and is looking at it. My friend said he has read in this forum that several 250's and 225 have had this problem. I'm out of warr. but have around 50 hr. total time. I hope I can get some help from Yamaha.

    I always wonder about ethanol in the gas.. I think I'll start running startron http://www.starbrite.com/produ...iesel The deisel stuff is the same as the gas, but twice as concentrated. So it will go even farther in gas, use less.

    That sucks... it's in good hands there hopefully you'll be back on the water soon... it'll be interesting to hear what they think the cause was... you'll have to let us know the results.

    04 250 hpdi also blew #2.Mechanic said he had 2 225 hpdi also blew # 2 didn't ask the year.Was under warranty and got a great job,new power head,balancer,injector,plugs and even changed my impeller.the best part(never cost a penney)Yamaha has a great warranty but I hope I don't need it anymore.Hope it works out for you.

    My boat has never had ethanol in it, I started using premium gas when that crap started.

    I would not run premium, Unless you have high compression heads.

    Did your engine have the update oil pump (recall) from Yamaha?

    I'm starting to research the net and I'm finding alot of problems with Hpdi's > 200's. Alot of blown pistons due to fuel/oil problems.

    Sorry about the hammer Mine blew a couple years ago. I took it to Hydro Tec also. Best shop in the nation. They'll do you right. Are you getting toys put on it while's it's being fixed?

    There use be a lot of blown 225 and 250 before the oil pump recall. It seemed like after the oil pump recall we have not heard of hardly any.

    I have a 225 Vmax , & I have never run anything but premium gas, & seafoam, Mike, Why would u need high compression heads for premium fuel????

    i have a 08 300vmax and was told do not run anything but plain unleaded fuel was told the higher oct would burn up pistons

    I think it is because premium won't do you any good unless you are running high compression. It is just a waste of money to run premium in a stock motor.

    Higher compression makes the fuel burn faster. High octane race fuels burn slower to prevent Detonation .

    mine idles much better on premium, cranks better, Just seems to hit a "Crisper" lick on premium fuel, 93 octane isnt really high octane when you dilute it with oil, Low octane will hurt a high compression engine, but higher octane (93) wont hurt a low compression engine,

    The reason I ran Premiun is due to The ethanol Crap.
