Alright, here's one for all the Yamaha experts out there. My buddy has a 2003 Yamaha 3.1L. Last weekend he fished all day and never had a problem with the outboard firing up. When he got home, he didn't have any juice in the cranking battery to raise the motor off the transom saver. That night he charged his battery, but the next morning it was dead. He got the battery replaced, charged it up, and on Tuesday it was dead. He made sure that he didn't leave any switches on, and recharged it again. This time he left the motor cables off and only left the electronics wiring attached. He checked it on Wed. and the battery was fine. So he removed all the wiring and re-attached the outboard cables. He noticed that it arced when he went to attach the Positive cable. The next day the battery was drained.
So, is there something that he can check on the outboard itself that's a quick fix to see if it's draining the battery. Or is this something that will need to go to the shop for some serious diagnostics?
Thanks guys.
