The last couple of times out on the lake, I noticed a sharp hammering or clunking sound when letting off the throttle to settle off plane. It can be felt through the hull, and occurs 2 or 3 times when slowing down. Checked prop (25 P, T1) for tightness and clearance, and is okay.
I'm wondering if this is an indication of impending thrust washer failure. Any thoughts on this would be helpful.

Get it to the shop right away....I started hearing a strange clunk that I thought was engine related. Turns out it was lower unit and I messed it up completely by running with it for a couple of trips. Luckily insurance covered it since I apparently hit something, but it could have been a $2500 hit.
