    1999 Erude 225 oil injection problem

    I've got a 1999 Evinrude 225 Ficht. The motor always starts good and runs good WOT but when idling it sputters then clears itself out then sputters more. Sometimes it will shut off when you put it in gear. I pulled the plugs to look at them and theyre carboned to death. Did a compression check and had 115 all. I decarbed the motor with seafoam and then had 135-140 compression on all. So I know its getting too much oil. Now my question is, Is there an adjustment for the oil or Is there a way I can disconnect it and premix manually. I would personally like to just remove it but not sure how or if possible. Any help Appreciated.

    You have a DI engine, therefore you cannot disconnect the oiler. Your problem is most likely the plugs. When you do a de-carb on the engine then you need to change and index the plugs. Carbon buildup on plugs is a problem on all fuel injected motors and therefore must be addressed routinely as part of your maintenance. The use of XD100 will control the carbon.

    Also the sooty look is normal for the Ficht engines. As long as I can see a white spot on the ground electrode I know that plug is sparking and not fouled. These engines do not like extensive idleing. Danrude is spot on with the xd-100 for the Ficht,DI,and ETEC engines. Plugs MUST be indexed.

    What is indexing a plug? Ive built many 4stroke engines never heard of that? Same as Gapping? Wheres the best place to get plugs? Is it worth buying Erude plugs or can I get some from walmart? About how many hours should a set of plugs last? Im used to having my ol merc THANKS!!!!!!!!

    Gap at 0.28 Indexing is nothing more than making sure the open end of the plug is facing the injector for the most fire power. p.s. I have a 99 225 Ficht!!!

    How would you control what direction the plug is facing? The threads only go so far? over tighten to make it face a certain direction?

    Buy 8 then you won't be short. You can get them at NAPA. Also use the plug chart above for the correct plug for your motor.

    I do not have "Pinned" heads....So I dont have to make sure theyre facing a certain direction do I ? Should I get a set of "Pinned heads" Whats the differance?

    Check with your local BRP dealer and have them run your Serial number to see if the pin kit was applied to your motor.

    The "pin kit" was only for the 1998-99 150 and 175hp motors. Those were the problem ones that gave FICHT it's bad reputation.

    Re-read the indexing article, but do not pay attention to page 2 as it does not apply to the other FICHT models.
