Y.E.S. warranty details, warranty claim experiences?

Wondering about the Yamaha Extended Service plans. Does Yamaha cover and administer the full length of the warranty themselves, or do they pass it off on an aftermarket warranty company after a certain number of years? (similar to the Evinrude 3+2 warranty plan, where the first 3 years are factory warranty, and the last 2 years are an aftermarket warranty through a separate company - FPC.)

I know Merc's promotional 5 year warranty is fully factory supported, but how about Yamaha's?

Also, what kind of luck have people had dealing with Yamaha warranty claims? From what I can gather, Mercury is pretty great to deal with on that stuff, Evinrude not so much (esp after the aftermarket warranty kicks in).

Best I have ever seen. I bought my boat used and it had 2 years of warranty left which Yamaha gladly transferred. My trim unit literally blew up and broke into a bunch of metal pieces. Yamaha put a whole new unit on free at a $1600 cost. Later my prop shaft sheared inside the lower unit and fell into 150' of water along with a new T-1 prop. They replaced the lower unit and gave me a new prop so maybe $3500 there. No hassle and no problems and it was Yamaha managing the YES warranty. I could not imagine better backup than I have gotten from them. Hope that helps.

Seemed like it for a while there. It only had 78 hours when I bought it and was thinking I got a lemon. Been perfect since the LU issues.

I have had Yamaha replace complete lu/prop under warranty with no issues. I have had several friends that have had the same experiance with everything from lu to powerheads. I am 100% happy with Yamahas warranty dept. and the Y.E.S program.

Glad I can't give you any experiences concerning using the Y.E.S. plan. Never had to use it while I had it, and have never had anything done to the engine other than routine maintenance.
