    blown cylinder #1

i have a 2001 HPDI 200 with about 260-300 hours on it and i blew the #1 cylinder. this seems like its pretty low hours to have a major problem like this. I have always had the maintenance done and ran Yamalube as recommended.

I just got the quote to fix it and its 8k. I have had 2 opitmax in the past and never had a problem like this.

    Very dissapointed in Yamaha.

See the posts on the oil pump recall, you may be eligible for a replacement power head, there have been a lot of failures due to the faulty oiling system. You, or your dealer, can check with Yamaha.

I have came to the conclusion that to keep the 01 200HPDI that i have running i need a spare that i can pull parts off of!! I have had so much trouble with this motor i scream. all this and i have just over 200 hours on mine!!! after $4500 to get the motor to run right now i have to replace the LU!! ITS ONE THING AFTER ANOTHER WITH THIS MOTOR!!! <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Slippy &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Very dissapointed in Yamaha. </TD></TR></TABLE> me 2!!!!!

Sorry about the disapointment, but I hear there are 2 type of outboard "Ones that have blown and one's that are going to blow."

If this is the 2.6L 200hp HPDI it wasn't part of the recall for oil pumps. It was 3.1 and 3.3's. You should call Hydro Tec.

I had mine replaced by them for a fraction of that price quoted to you. I don't have the recipt within reach right now but I think a new head was around 3g's

Re: blown cylinder #1 (Wayne Worthy)

I second HydroTec. I had the very same motor except mine was a 2002 200HPDI and had the #2 inj fail and took out #2 cyl. From what I here the Inj are the main cause of problems with that HPDI. I Agree with the poster above HydroTec took care of me with a powerhead and their High Comp Heads Carbonfiber Reeds and seems like something else for like 4500.00 or so. Talk about making a diff on a 518 Ranger. Cudo's to them.

That's what I intend to do with mind. I'm going to keep this Skeeter, and if it ever blows again, and the warranty's up I'm going to send it in!

    Re: blown cylinder #1 (CGWright)

i have had 2 yamahas and they have been flawless, seems like you are just having bad luck with yours and it doesent matter if you have 20 hours or 500 hours they could blow at any time, every brand blows motors, you just have to get lucky and get one that doesent blow.

oh and 8K sounds way to high.

Customer service like that is why everyone is so high on Hydro Tec.

    Re: blown cylinder #1 (Slippy)

I have a 04hpdi250 and it lost the #1 cyl.dealer said he fixed 2 225 and my 250 last few months all lost #1 cyl.said he never knew if other shops were finding problems with same cyl.mine had 298hrs when it let go,no warning of any kind.Yamaha put a new powerhead,1injector,waterpump,2thermostats,harmoni c balancer(didn't know it had that),2 reed blocks and reeds and updated oil pump.10 day turn around and never cost a nickel.still not happy it broke but on the bright side I have almost new motor.would talk to someone else, everyone I know says yamaha has great warranty and service.they all blow up and with my luck I always get the one that will.Good Luck
