trim gauge not working

The trim gauge for my 01 ficht 250 is not working properly.It will move up from the bottom of the gauge for 1/4in then quit working.I have twins on this boat so I can swap the gauges,hopefully this will tell me if it is the gauge or something else.What should I look for if it is not the gauge?Can these gauges be rebuilt or how much is a new one?Thanks

if you have the trim sending unit with the little lever make sure it ( the lever) is not caught under the ground wire. I just replaced my trim sending unit took the boat out and it did not work after 5 minutes , was just about to yank it off and return it to the dealer for a new one when I moved the lever and wow it worked. as for rebuild, NO just buy a new one if it is that they are only about 30 bucks ( telflex) but if it is moving some I would check the sending unit first as mine went up about 1/4 then stopped and would go up and down when I shut off the motor.
