??? about getting a Power Head

Ok guys i would like some input about the pros and cons to buying a new or reman powerhead

I'm just looking into options this would be a 200 HPDI 2.6L

I can get a reman from Hydro tec for lets say $ 3900.00 give or take some $$ with a 6 month warrnty

Or I can get a New 1 from Yammie I was told by Vegas Marine for $ 6500.00 with a 2 yr warrnty from yammie

this is a Big diff of about 2600.00 that is alot of money and for the 2600.00 I could get a phaseIII kit

Re: ??? about getting a Power Head (spider1)

I'm thinking the same but the 2 yr warrnty over 6 months is a big diff. But I would think if it was going to have problems it would be within a few months

But this is why I'm asking what others think also

Do you put a lot of hours on your motors?
If so then the 6 month should catch any early problem. If only a few hours per year then you might want the 2 years.
Me I would go phase III !!!!!!

Re: ??? about getting a Power Head (spider1)

The lakes out here are small so I don't run alot but I would like to have the extra/phase kit for when I do go to Mead, Havasu or the Delta which I go to all 1-3 times a year ( well not mead much anymore unless my boat is at the shop) But I do fish 4 times a week also

So if I'm puting 5 hrs a week or so, on a motor that would be close to 100 - 120hr in 6 months

I guessing @ the hrs on this motor I know the preson I got it from used it 2 times a week or so and he had it 5yrs and I have had it 2 yrs so I'm thinking it has about 950-1100 hrs on it @ 3 hrs a week. The hr meter on the computer is not working so I have no real info

Thats why I'm thinking I may just get a new power head after I find out what the rpm's/fuel problum is

Nathan said that they are seeing alot of 5year plus HPDI's on the 2.6L blowing head gaskets now, So I'm thinking this whole mess out when I'm waiting on that o2 sensor to get here. I hope its here tomorrow

Re: ??? about getting a Power Head (macinckirk)

i pulled the powerhead to install a tuner before that i changed the heads
and reeds. all suprisingly easy to change powerheads if you could have
them side by side and swap parts it may not be bad alot of ____ wires
everywhere on the hpdi. have you found out what was wrong with yours?
i have the same motor im curious...hydrotec gives you torque values
and some diagrams but the electronics part of it i would want alittle
    more good luck.

Re: ??? about getting a Power Head (macinckirk)

I just had a new powerhead put on my 1999 200 vmax 3.1. You better check that warranty from Yamaha because I was told it is only for 90 days and I think I called Yamaha (cant remember). My mechanic put a year warranty for parts and labor (which means he is confident he did everything right and could turn it into his insurance if it blows again). If I lived a little closer to Hydro Tech I would've went with theirs with the phase II. BTW, I paid $6200 for a new powerhead, parts and labor included.

Re: ??? about getting a Power Head (Blanked Again)

Thanks for the heads up Blanked Again

What I was told from Marcus @ Vegas Marine was 2 years on a New Long Block Power Head But I'll Check again when the time comes Right now my motor is hauling azz and eating gas
I'm going to run it again this morning but it Ran Great last night for 49 min for the 1st run 10 mins 2nd run and 10 mins to ramp 5 mins just siting there at ramp oh and I did get to fish for a hr or so

I'm thinking that I'll take Nathans advice and order the Head Gaskets and get those change out too and also add a water / fuel filter in the boat

Our warranty is 1 year and the Yamaha warranty is 90 days. We can also offer injector cleaning. We also offer dyno testing, this insures that your engine is broke in and dialed in and ready to go when you get it back! Our dyno is a true horse power dyno (Stuska) not a K&O or Land & Sea.
