    OILING QUESTION ON PROV150

MY 150 has a oil drain problem.(PROV150J,6J9 L 301854) are the numbers listed on the plate. When the motor is tilted all the way up.Oil drains out of the top tank.everything is fine when in operation(tilt down). Not a constant problem.
    just happens now and again.
had the power head rebuilt 2 years ago all runs fine.had the oil drain problem from when I bought it 3 years ago.
extra questions, what year is this motor exactly 1985 or 86? Where can I hook a water pressure guage to it?Can some one tell me where to get a wire diagram for it,from motor to controls to check saftylights, oil and temp etc.

I don't know how to figure the year but this link http://www.bbcboards.net/zerothread?id=94730 at the top of this page will give a breakdown and part numbers for the whole motor....but you will need the year.

You may have something small, like grit or a speck of sand, lodged in one of the check valves in the oil pump. Or, the check valves need to be seated better. Remove the six small hoses from the top of the oil pump and gently place the back end of a small drill bit in the hole. Tap the tip of the bit gently with a hammer and replace the hoses.

It worked for me when I had my 150 ProV (1985 model).

Are you saying it runs down the inside of the oil line from the main tank to the oil pump...then from there into the carbs and out onto the lower pan? If that's the case, it's a weak spring or a bad valve seat. Follow my comments above...be gentle, it won't take much of a tap.

Could it be the scavenger tube on the breather box is clogged and when trimming up to trailer load or shallow water it's filling the breather box with oil.

You know, it was so long ago, I really don't remember if it was the "in" tube or the six smaller tubes to the carbs. I believe it was the six smaller tubes. Anyway, I was told to remove the clamps and pull the hoses off, stick a small drill bit in each of the holes into the top of the pump and then tap the tip of the drill bit with a small tack hammer. Then replace the hoses and clamps.

All I know is that it solved that problem for that day. I also had a bad sending unit in the main tank, on another occasion, that would make the remote tank pump oil constantly, I had to replace the switch box and sending unit/sensor. I used to have a manual for that old '85 ProV 150. It covered all of the electrical issues very well and it gave me the proper readings to check for with each sensor or switch.

YOU WOULD HAPPEN TO STILL HAVE THAT MANUAL.The oil tank on the motor keeps proper level. This spring i seen 2 out of 6 empty lines from oil pump.since then i did initial run in to check it out.As such the oil aint running out now.It shows up right away when in runs out. Thanks for the help.I will probably change pump soon anyhow to be on safe side.Cheaper the motor job EH!.

OK, remove the two empty lines and follow the drill bit instructions into the pump. See if that helps.
