Well mine died with 8 hours on it !

Is it just me or is alot of people having problems with yamaha's ? I am hearing so many horror stories about these motors and was wondering what is going on. I was on the lake pre-fishing for a tournament the other day and could not get her over 4200 rpms and thought i might have some plugs fouling, so i changed the plugs and no change. Carried it in and checked compression on 1-5 and had anywhere from 115 to 118 and on #6 a big fat zero. I have it in the shop now and they tore it apart today and i'm going in the morning to see what happened. 8 hours and it's gone ! That is pathetic and i followed break in to a T ! First it was a starter gone in the first 2 hours on the motor, then the lower unit fill plug was loose from the factory, my trim doesn't sound right and now my motor is blown ? Someone please renew my faith in this motor !!

I popped three of the 225 HPDI on my Skeeter ZX225 in a total of 24 hours, so don't feel alone! Skeeter and Yamaha stood behind it though and running a 20-I Skeeter now with a 250 HPDI and so far it's running great.

All Manufactures have bad ones, I hate it for you, but it happens. I have run mine for 2 years with no problems.

I wonder if it's a problem that they are having with the 225's ? Mine broke a rod, so i have a new powerhead headed this way hopefully !

maybe just the HDPI, don't really hear many problems from OX66 motors. (knock on wood)

I've been seeing some recent issues with injectors going bad.

Re: Well mine died with 8 hours on it ! (OkieBoatMech)

Would a bad injector have anything to do with a rod breaking ? I'm not the sharpest pencil in the box when it comes to motors, just wondering. He said something about replacing one of my injectors which is the only reason i asked. Thanks in advance for all the information you give me on this subject. I hope it's a quick fix. I wonder if you added a little oil to your fuel on top of what the motor does automatically would do any good with all these motor problems that are going on right now. It seems like when they started having to meet all these enviromental demands, that the motors have gone to crap ! Just my opinion. I had an XR-6 that you couldn't tear up if you wanted to and this one has been in the shop more times in 6 months, than my XR-6 was in 6 years !

I agree, since the environmental changes to lean out these motors, it seems that more have been biting it early in their lives.

Well a the last couple of years it was the 250HPDI's blowing more than others, I have had no issues with my 225 and will keep running it like I always do. Like I have said before, we only hear of the bad on these type of boards so it will seem like there are a lot poping. I know of several of each brand of motor that blew this past weekend in the FLW event!

There are only 2 kinds of outboards, those that have blown, and those that are fixing too.

Oh gosh dont tell me that ! All warranties eventually wear out and then it has to come out of our pockets ! Ha Ha I had a johnson years ago where i disconnected the oil pumps and added it directly to the fuel. I wonder if that can be done or not with the addition to the computers that control everything ? Any have any insight on this ?

    Only on carb motors.

Re: Well mine died with 8 hours on it ! (Blazer210ProV)

If an injector goes bad on a DFI, each cylinder has its own injector. If an injector starts misbehaving you get no lube to the cylinder since little or no fuel is inserted. Adding oil to the fuel would not help this. Carb motors or EFI motors are less susceptable to this since all cylinders get their fuel/oil from the same point..

2 years, 133 hours, has never missed a beat. Remember, this is the internet. The only people that post are the ones having trouble. The 100's of others are running just fine.
