I have a 2004 Champion 198 Elite with a 200HP Yamaha. Last year I had problems with the engine overheating while going through "no wake" zones. It just seemed the engine was not pumping enough water unless I was running at a decent speed. I called my dealer and they suggested replacing the impeller on the water pump. The repair was completed and I picked up my boat but since it was late in the year I never had a chance to take it out myself and test the engine.
The engine has always seemed to have low water pressure. At idle the pressure gauge does not really measure anything. Water is pumping from the engine but the pressure gauge does not detect anything unless I depressed the hotfoot. Is this normal or at idle should the gauge have a minimal reading that is noticable on the pressure gauge?
Today I started the engine for the first time this season and for the first time since the repair. I used a 100 gallon stock tank filled with water rather than hooking it up to a hose. The pressure readings have remained the same and water is still flowing out of my engine at idle. I'm affraid the engine is the same way. Any suggestions or is it normal for the pressure gauge to read very low on idle...
