how tough are these motors.is there any common problems.i am looking at a boat with one on it and dont know much about the yamahas.i have always ran 150 and 175hp johnson engines the bigger engines kind of scre me a little about the dependability.

the 3.1L are pretty tough my 97 225 is modded..... I have read some salt water yammies in the 2000hr range and never been apart
That motor is as bulletproof as you will find.

Use "Ring Free" continuously in every tank of fuel and it'll run forever.

thanks guys sounds like it is a dependable engine.i guess i am a little paranoid of having trouble out of the big engines.
I love mine, just run ring free or sea foam and clean the o2 sensor once a year..
