    Just Ordered My 1st Yamaha.....

I just placed the order for my 2007 Stratos 201 w/ a Yamaha 250 HPDI. This will be my first Yamaha. I have had an '05 and '06 225 E-TEC H.O. I loved those motors so I go to Yamaha with some hesitancy.

What do I need to know to make sure this boat runs strong and for a long time? I fish tournaments and can't afford to be stranded.

What instructions do you guys have?

Just break it in by the book and run Seafoam in it from day 1, then run it like you stole it!!!!!!!

    Jason,
I'm sure Todd will take care of it, but you need the pre-filter on the hpdi's from day one. Make sure and use seafoam, and also check the prop washer, todd's replacing my whole LU because of a prop washer that was slightly off.... It was eating at my LU ever so slightly. That man is top notch, fixing stuff I didn't even know was broke.

and oh yeah, what Rebel said.... It's gotta be all or nothing.

Looks like everyone else has already covered the break-in, filters, and anti-carbon additives. It's pretty much like all the high-tech fuel delivery type engines. Feed it GOOD QUALITY fuel, and everything should work as it was designed. You should love it.
    Congratulations

As everyone said above but turn it as close to 6000 rpm that you can. It's easy on oil and gas if you don't put your foot in it

Well everything has pretty much been covered. Just for future reference I guess. Once you get 40-50 hours on it, you'll probably see an increase in RPMs and performance. Those Japanese like to build them tight. That's one reason you need to break it in by the book. Oh, and one more thing. The number one cause of failure in yamahas is pre-detonation. (that what I heard on this board anyway) The manual says you can run Regular gas in it. And then tells you to run Premium if pinging occurs. I don't know how the heck your supposed to tell on a 2 stroke, running WOT, with the wind in your face if it is "Pinging" So, I would recommend running mid grade. The only problem with running higher than recommend octane is you have more carbon build up. But, the Seafoam will keep the carbon out.
