    Racor question for Hamfisted

Do you know which filter Yammie recommends for the 175HPDI, 60gph or 90gph? I have a limited amout of space to mount it and I'm leaning toward the 60 but can't find any info on the Yammie website as to which one they recommend for this motor.

Another question: This may be in the instructions when I get it but....does it need to be installed between the tank and bulb or between the bulb and motor. Will the Racor kit come with everything I need or will I have to get the barbed fittings for the fuel line connections. Any other installation tips I should know. I'm going to order it today and I want to have everything I need to install it when it arrives.

Try calling Racor, they suggested 60 for mine 225hp Vmax as this motor at full speed will take a max of 35 gph.The 90 would be way too much.

That was my thoughts too. I can't see that this motor would need the big one but I didn't know what Yammie recommended.

I have the 60 gph on my 300.
The one I ordered only came with the filter and bracket only. I had to buy the mounting bolts and connectors for the fuel hose. I tried to mount mine between the bulb and the tank and did not like that set up at all. I now have it between the bulb and motor. That way I can prime the filter with the bulb. Make it way easier that way when you change the filter also.

I went ahead and ordered the 60gph. I see what you are saying about mounting it after the bulb. For any of you other guys who need one, http://www.boatfix.com has them for $62.72 plus shipping. Thanks for the info guys.

I have one have you ever burned 60 gph in your boat I dont think so. You will need the barbed fittings does not come with racor. You will need to mount between tank and bulb. Very good investment keep an eye on clear bowl on bottom of racor look for water every time you come in and charge batterys. Good luck Rico!!!

Re: Racor question for Hamfisted (55excl)

I've noticed some descepancy. Can the filter be mounted between the bulb and the engine? I mounted mine last night and did it this way ( not reading the instructions first ) and now I'm worried I'm gonna mess something up? If this is the wrong way to do, please explain what potential damage I might have or other issues that might arise.

    Thanks for the help!

Re: Racor question for Hamfisted (jfdawson)

The problem with putting the primer ball before the Racor in the line is that the Racor (and most other spin-on filters...) are only sealed for a 7 psi max pressure rating. Over time the routine of pumping up the primer ball firm introduces more than the 7 psi to the filter body and may result in seal leaks, either fuel leaking out, or air leaking in, neither of which is good for the system. That is why they have always recommended the primer ball installed after the filter body in the fuel line, and boats professionally rigged are set up this way.
