    Please Help BREAK IN QUES>HPDI

I bought my new boat with an HPDI 250. My dealer told me to just give it enough to get on plane for the first hour.
Long story short. ...............2.5(15 miles) hours and I varied the throttle but never hit full throttle. Have you guys read the article from motoman break in method??
If not take a look at it. Google it. Anyhow, My dealer said that after 2 hours it is pretty much broken in. This stresses me out because I have a bit over 2 hours and have not gone full throttle yet. Hopefully the 15miles is accurate bc moto man says we have up till 20 miles which would make sense. I have about 2 hours on it and my gauge reads 15 miles. Do you guys think I may still see full performance from her despite my break in error.

    Thanks

Did you read your Yamaha manual regarding break in? This is what I would go by. Yamaha built it, Yamaha warranties it should anything go "pop". The dealer doesn't, momo whoever doesn't and so on.

    911:
I read his "controversial" article and find one thing interesting (quote): "Although the examples shown here are motorcycle engines, these principles apply to all 4 stroke engines." As you have a two stroke, I would say this approach may be a stretch. As well, I do not think the Mfg (Yamaha) would mislead a consumer about break-in as they are responsible for repairs for at least 2 years. Have you read the break-in procedures in your Owner's Manual? You can make short (1 min or less) WOT runs during the second hour, but you must let it run for at least 10 mins to cool off.

If it were mine in your situation, I would start at the beginning of the 2nd hour per the break-in instructions and just keep working the break-in following the instructions exactly. I think you're OK unless I am misunderstanding your point.

Re: Please Help BREAK IN QUES>HPDI (Skeeter Madness)

This is EXACTLY why I never buy a used boat anymore- all kinds of opinion, misunderstanding and misguided information is given to newbies, often by dealers, even though the factory hands out a manual and now the 'puters on these engines tattle on the owners for incorrect break-in. Like the others have said- FOLLOW the manual, not someone offering theirself to be an expert without offering to pay for what they help you tear up!

I ran my 150vmax hpdi for the first two hours like this. I would get her on plane and keep it at no more than 3500 for the first two hours, with several slow cool down minutes mixed in. After two hours, I brought her up to wot for just a min or two and backed it back down to let it cool down. I then ran it around 3500-4000 for a while and slowed down to idle to let everything cool down. Then another wot run. Now up to a little over three hours and will run it this way until I hit approx. 10 hrs. This is pretty much how my dealer told me to do it.
