Please help 4th battery for oxy sensor.

I have a 2002 Yamaha V-max 225 OX6. I am wondering if the charging circuit supplies a charge to the 4th battery or just the starting battery. Also should I hook the accesories to this battery or the starting battery. I know this sounds weird but I just recieved a replacement boat and they did not put the forth battery back in so I am in the process of doing this myself. I have 2 for the trolling motor, apparently the 3rd is for the oxy sensor and the 4th is for starting. Help.

No... The O2 sensor does not take a seperate battery....

On a 4 battery setup--"usually" one battery is for starting, the other 3 are for a 36 volt trolling motor if so equipped. If your trolling motor is 24 volt you only need two--the third can be used for whatever or removed to cut down on the weight. Accesories can be hooked up to any or all of the batteries. Some folks prefer using only the starting battery for accesories--I use both. Never had a problem.
The charging system (alternator) will only charge the battery(s) it is attached to.

What would be the function of a second starting battery then? When I originally bought the boat I was told it had something to do with a trolling system that was an option in that motor. the guy was a striper pisherman. Do most of the guys tie the accesories up to the starting battery. Am I right by saying then if I keep my accesorys hooked up to this battery I should buy a three bank charger and hook it to one of the banks. Also could I hook a charger to 2 deepcycles and 1 starting?

You should have ONE large battery for starting and all your accessories hooked to it.... Two batts for the trolling motor if it's a 24V system hooked up all by themselves. There are 36V trolling motors available and that would be a reason for the fourth batt. If your trolling motor is 24, get rid of one of the batts.

Good advice. If you don't need the forth battery, get rid of the extra weight. If you have a ton of accesories or it's important to you and the weight dosen't matter, keep it and think about a four bank charger. Connect a lead from the charger to all four. Your alternator will help while you are on the water---the charger will make sure your batteries are topped off when you get home. Good insurance for a fully charged battery next time out.
Do some research on Deep Cycle and dual purpose batteries and on chargers. There is a ton of information on the BBC and much more to look through on the internet.

OK boys, I finally got the scoop right from Yamaha, The local dealers seemed to have mutiple stories. You guys may want that forth Battery, The extra cable coming off the motor is called an Isolator cable. This cable also charges through the charging system so basically what I had was a forth battery for all the accesories the 4th battery and the starting share a common ground. The starting battery works alone so you don't have to worry about running the battery down while running your electronics. Hook up all your electronincs to the forth battery and hook up the isolator cable to the positive side any worry about running your starting battery down are gone. I think it is worth the weight. The battery will charge through the motor. See Ya

Unless you are running a very large amount of accessories and only running your outboard very short distances the extra battery is just added weight you don't need.
