    Vmax 2-stroke break in

I bought a new Skeeter with a 150 Vmax 2-stroke in November, and had to park it in my garage for the winter (live in southeastern PA). When I picked up the boat, the dealer had put approx. 5-10 gallons of premixed fuel in the tank for the break in period. Dealer told me that I had to use premixed fuel along with the oil injection for the break in period. Before storing the boat, I filled (to 90% capacity) the fuel tank with straight gasoline, forgetting to add the appropriate amount of oil at the same time. I now need to figure out how much oil to add, but am unsure how to do so since I do not know exactly how much premixed fuel was initially in the tank. Do I need to drain the tank and start from scratch, or is it ok to figure out how much fluid is in the tank and adding the appropriate amount of oil for a 50:1 mix, knowing that it might end up being something like 40:1?

This is a great site and appreciate any and all comments/advice.

More is better than less..... See how big your tank is, Calculate what you think you need and it will be close enough.....

Go here and pick out your outboard. There is a section on breakin period.

What Mike said... I cant believe your dealer didnt fill the tank all the way up with premix for your double oiling, just thought that was a normal thing for them to do when they prep one for delivery.

Since it's an SL 180 that means it has a 30 gal tank. If it is now 90% full that means you got about 27 gallons in it. If there was 5 gallons in it from the dealer then I would say you need to add enough to oil to treat 22 gallons. I would just go ahead and round it up to 4 qts. Thats actually enough to treat 24 gallons of gas. The worst thing you will do is foul plugs.

Come on there SJ, what kind of dealer would do that. Mine was as dry as a desert when i got her. Hell they couldn't even clean the cat s#$t and dead cats out of mine, much less give me 5 gallons of gas.

Man I forgot about all that.. I've bought two brand new boats in my life from two different dealers and both were filled up to the top when I took ownership. So I figured that was common practice for dealers to do. But then again, FC, your dealer doesnt count I think they try and do just the opposite of what they are supposed to do.

I'd figure it at 22 gallons, that should get you close enough for "peace of mind". However, I also think you need to add some fuel stabilizer. Three+ months is a long time for fuel to sit. Don't be surprised if the engine runs rough until you can get more fresh fuel mixed in there. JMHO

Re: Vmax 2-stroke break in (Skeeter Jay)

I got hold of my dealer today and he informed me that they did in fact add enough oil in the fuel tank for the correct premix with a full load of fuel.

Thanks to all for their help.

He was wrong, Unless you have an HPDI.... Carb v-max's do not double oil for you. Lots of dealers are better at selling them than product knowledge of what they sell.... You should disregaurd what they tell you and go by the manual... Look in yours to verify.

Re: Vmax 2-stroke break in (Bass_cat)

Better read your manual again, too late... ... I also run a OX66.... Been running yamahas for years. There is no computer on an OX66 for that. I meant to say all OX66 and carb models need manual double oil break-in.... I'll post where you can read it for your self on line....

Read page 3-10 in your manual.... I see you did not. Looks like your race buddy was wrong like I said.

Re: Vmax 2-stroke break in (geauxtigers)

How can you tell when you've reached 10 hours on your motor (besides a stop watch) I'm picking up my new boat Saturday, it has a new 2004 250 OX66 on it. I was told by an OMC dealer on my last boat was to run double oil for 1 full tank and then I would be "good to go" My 201 Stratos has a 50 gallon tank. I just planned on dumping a gallon of oil in and topping the tank off with gas

Re: Vmax 2-stroke break in (Bass_cat)

EDEERNET, You better go by the manual.... 1 tank of gas is not enough to last 10 hours I dont think....Those lil' guys that design these motors know more than the salesman do. Proof is right above...

Bass Cat deleted his posts of saying the OX66 double oils itself because he read it in the manual, and his race motor builder friend/Yamaha dealer said it does it through the computer.... . He's lucky his motor still runs. If it blew up and they saw pure gas in the tank, Someone would be in a lil' pinch!

Re: Vmax 2-stroke break in (fishin couillon)

I don't want to take any chances with the new motor......I was just wondering how long a tank of gas would last....I guess a 250 will go through it pretty fast. I'm going to plan on 2 tanks full of double oil. I don't think I have any digital gauges....Is there something on the motor that shows the hours?
