Disaster Avoided...Or So I Hope.

I pulled the upper cowling off my 2001 200EFI to start the process of removing the injectors for cleaning. One of the first things I noticed was a small bolt laying in the bottom cowl pan. I looked around, to no avail, to see where it came from. It wasn't until I was removing the VST unit that I found out where the bolt had come from. It was one of the 2 bolts that holds the oil pump in place! In fact the second bolt had almost fallen out as well. There was just enough threads left to leave the pump engaged in its slot!! I'm guessing that just a couple more minutes of run time would have been all this motor had left in it had I not found the bolt!

Moral of the story...Pull that cowl occasionally just to have a look around. It just may save you some major bucks!

    Mark:

I'd certainly make sure some LIQUID LOCTITE was applied to those bolts next time around.

    I'd recommend RED.
