Don Weed- Tilt Trim Question? Thank you....

I run a TR 20 w/200 Mercyry EFI. Have Teleflex at the steering wheel. When I was running yesterday my boat wouldn't let me trim up past 1/4 trim when I was running wide open? If I would slow down I could trim up like usual but when I would hit the gas it would trim back down to 1/4 trim? If I would completely stop it would allow me to trim all the way up. Tried the standard trim switch on Shifter as well but neither allowed me to trim up past 1/4 after hole shot. Only could run 50mph at 1/4 trim.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Travis

    Travis:

    Couple of questions:

    1. Is this a new-to-you rig, or setup?

    2. If not... how far up on the gauge have you been able to achieve WHILE UNDERWAY (Rpm's above 2500) in the past?

These questions are important, as the trim system utilized on these engines has a built-in safety bypass, that PREVENTS you from over-trimming when operating at RPM's above approximately 2000 RPM's. Normal gauge level allowed will be somewhere in the 1/4-1/3 range (depending on setup, and trim sender adjustment).

DON'T FORGET TO CHECK ENGINE MOUNTING BOLT, JACKPLATE, AND JACKPLATE HARDWARE TORQUES. These should be checked REGULARLY (at a MINIMUM- once per year).

    Don,

    Thank you for your response.

    1) No, it is not a new set up, had the boat for 6 months and half way familiar with it. Ran the boat on Thur. and it was fine. On Sat. I ran to first hole and it was fine. Fished 30 minutes and fired up to run down lake and that is when the problem occured. I can usually trim around 1/3+ to reach top end speed.

I can be truthful and say I didn't check fluid level, that is next on the list but boat is 2 hours away in storage and I won't be able to do that until Fri.

    2) I did check mounting plates and such just to make sure nothing had come loose, didn't see anything wrong anywhere.

In addition to checking the jackplate and mounting bolts (note- you can actually MEASURE the distance between the transom and engine mounting brackets to CONFIRM there is no stretch or skew in the plate)-

Make sure that you've checked the MOUNTING BOLTS for the TRIM SYSTEM. If they're loose (or one or more are MISSING), this can also result in a decreased trim angle at WOT.

Don, don't really know what happened? I took boat out after checking everything you told me to and fluid. Nothing was loose or low? She ran like a charm and never could tell anything was wrong????

No clue on what had went wrong last time. Will let you know if it happens again.

Thank you for your knowledge though.
