    Mercury 25 HP Prop Question

I just bought a used Mercury 25 HP outboard. I decided to remove the prop after changing the lower unit oil to make sure it was not seized and place a little grease on the shaft. This is the first time I ever removed a prop. I got a strong arm and socket preparing for the job to be strenuous. It was easy to remove! I don't have a torque wrench, but I easily removed the nut with one hand. How tight should it be when I put it back on? There is no castle nut and cotter pin...just slide the prop on and then tighten the 19 mm nut.

    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to BBC!

One of us would be more than happy to assist you with this question.

However.... when requesting "engine specific information".... we do need you to provide engine-specific identification (the engine's Serial Number).

    Thank for the serial number.

For NON-Bigfoot models (metal locknut WITHOUT a locking or retaining ring): 16.7 ft. lbs is the appropriate torque (you'll have to round up to 17 ft. lbs with most torque wrenches).
