    Water pressure ... Max RPMs?

Motor is a '95 XR6 150 Mercury, serial# OG130703. What PSI should I have at WOT & what is a safe minimum for that motor. Had boat out first time in a couple of months this last weekend and noticed water pressure was about 12 PSI at WOT. 15-17 was normal before... I think. Also what RPMs should it be running WOT. Can't find max RPMs on motor anywhere. Running light tach shows 6100ish RPMs , is that too many RPMs for this motor? 23 pitch Yamaha. Thanks in advance for any info

Water pressure should be no less than 12 psi at wot. IMO i would be changing it at 12 psi before it gives some overheat problems going into the summer

    Water pressure specs:

    2-4 psi minimum at IDLE
12 psi BARE MINIMUM @ WOT (prefer 15+ for safe measure in turns)

If water pressure is in question- ALWAYS, ALWAYS start at the SOURCE: The Water Pump. Part# 96148A8 is a cost-effective kit for this engine.

WOT RPM's are usually printed on the Serial Number Decal (directly below the serial number).

With the oil injection system intact, I wouldn't recommend running this engine at anything above 6000 RPM's (most models were rated at 5600 or 5800 WOT RPM's).

Thanks for the info guys ...guess I've got a weekend project ahead of me.

Another question while I'm at it ...would I be askn' for trouble if I washed the motor down? I know I wouldn't want to get water in the carbs/airbox. Oil tank cap broke and puked oil all over front of motor last season. Thought I could use some Simple Green and spray it off with a garden hose.

As long as you avoid the airbox/front of carbs... you should be fine.

Ensure that the engine is dried COMPLETELY (preferably in the sun for 5-8 hours) afterwards, with the cowling OFF.

Detergent-based cleaners (or a good quality engine degreaser) also work well.

    Same specs as show above.

You should see a BARE MINIMUM of 12 psi (prefer 15+ psi for safe measure in turns) at WOT.
