99 merc 200 efi info needed

    I am buying a 99 bass cat Pantera 3 with a 99 mrec 200 efi 2.5L
1 how good are these motors on fuel at wot and half throttle?
2 Is there anything special I need to be aware of with this motor?
3 The person that had it before the guy I am buying it from blew the power head had it rebuilt and now has 150-175 hrs on it but when it got rebuilt he took off the oil pump and just mixes the oil what ratio do I need to mix it at and what kind of oil do I need to use?
4 How hard and how much would it cost to put the oil pump back in it and a oil tank or do I just need to leave it as is?
5 I have a oil tank from my previous boat that had a 86 150 blackmax xr2 magnum would it work if I decide to put the oil injection back on?
6 Do I need to run stabil or something else for ethanol protection? On my motor I have now I have never used stabil but once and it screwed it up so I quit using it.
7 what size prop do I need to run it has a 4 blade on it now but I would think a 3 blade would give me better hole shot and a little bit more top end please correct my thinking if it is incorrect.
8 anything else I need to be aware of

Thanks for any and or all help in advance

Re: 99 merc 200 efi info needed (spiffey28694)

Let's break up the questions a bit... will try to answer them:

<table width="90%" cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 align=center><tr><td>Quote, originally posted by spiffey28694 &raquo;</td></tr><tr><td class="quote">1 how good are these motors on fuel at wot and half throttle?
    </td></tr></table>

For their day... not too bad. By today's standards: They're VERY thirsty. 1/2-3/4 throttle cruising won't be nearly as bad as WOT running. Actual numbers will depend on boat, setup, and your driving characteristics.

<table width="90%" cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 align=center><tr><td>Quote, originally posted by spiffey28694 &raquo;</td></tr><tr><td class="quote">2 Is there anything special I need to be aware of with this motor?
    </td></tr></table>

Not specifically- the 2.5L models were strong, solid, well-tested. As with anything used- have it CHECKED OUT, including a Compression Test, Gearcase Check (fluid quality, propshaft runout, shifting quality), MAINTENANCE and NEEDS Review, and a test run on the water.

<table width="90%" cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 align=center><tr><td>Quote, originally posted by spiffey28694 &raquo;</td></tr><tr><td class="quote">3 The person that had it before the guy I am buying it from blew the power head had it rebuilt and now has 150-175 hrs on it but when it got rebuilt he took off the oil pump and just mixes the oil what ratio do I need to mix it at and what kind of oil do I need to use?
    </td></tr></table>

Recommend Mercury or Quicksilver Premium Plus oil... at 50:1 ratio for premix.

<table width="90%" cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 align=center><tr><td>Quote, originally posted by spiffey28694 &raquo;</td></tr><tr><td class="quote">4 How hard and how much would it cost to put the oil pump back in it and a oil tank or do I just need to leave it as is?</td></tr></table>

Not a cheap venture. Exactly how difficult it would be depends on whether the DRIVE gear on the crankshaft is intact. IMHO... since we really can't inspect that gear REALLY well with the engine assembled- I'd keep it as a Premix (and I do actually PREFER the oil injection).

<table width="90%" cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 align=center><tr><td>Quote, originally posted by spiffey28694 &raquo;</td></tr><tr><td class="quote">5 I have a oil tank from my previous boat that had a 86 150 blackmax xr2 magnum would it work if I decide to put the oil injection back on?</td></tr></table>

While "some" of the oil injection components are common to both engines- I would NOT recommend re-using these should you decide to reinstall oil injection. Simply NOT worth the risk.

<table width="90%" cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 align=center><tr><td>Quote, originally posted by spiffey28694 &raquo;</td></tr><tr><td class="quote">6 Do I need to run stabil or something else for ethanol protection? Fuel should be stabilized with a high-quality MARINE fuel stabilizer anytime it will not be CONSUMED and REPLACED within 15 DAYS. Today's fuel begin deteriorating AT 15 DAYS. Not sure where you got the information that "stabil screwed it up".... 36 years in the business, and I've not seen it happen ONCE.

<table width="90%" cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 align=center><tr><td>Quote, originally posted by spiffey28694 &raquo;</td></tr><tr><td class="quote">7 what size prop do I need to run it has a 4 blade on it now but I would think a 3 blade would give me better hole shot and a little bit more top end please correct my thinking if it is incorrect.
    </td></tr></table>

I'd recommend running the one that's on it FIRST, and determine how IT performs. In many cases, a 4 Blade will have a better holeshot, strong mid range, and be a tad slower on the top end (compared to 3 blade). Of course, this depends on WHAT actual prop you have (there are DOZENS of different 4 blades).

    </td></tr></table>

Yes... highly recommend that you check ALL maintenance items. Do ANYTHING that's not been done in the last year- or that's "unknown". See the following posts (maintenance post was written for Optimax models- all applies to yours as well, EXCEPT for references to the "Belt, Air Compressor, or Compressor Filter"):

You're welcome... glad to help. That was a LOT of questions....

Thanks Don!!!!! This is pretty much the only boat in the price range that I can find for now and I have to have something very quickly.....The person I am buying it from says everything on it is good and just had it in for yearly service and has all the tickets for it so hopefully I will get out on the good side.....Thank you for answering all the questions.
