Looking for some advise. My budget for next boat has me looking at some 99and 2000 optimax motors. I know they had some issues with the early ones. How can I tell if they were updated? I had 1 2000 that ran me 600 hours. is that the mormal?

That's not uncommon... there are still plenty of 1999-2000 model Opti's out there running (I've got one customer with well over 4500 hours on his).
A good starting point in determining what a particular engine has had, or needs, is to provide the serial number of the engine in question.
