Water leaking around linkage shaft when flushing.

Just started my Mercury 2 stroke 60 hp engine with the muffs on and began to see water running out around the shaft of the linkage and also out of a port hole on the leg right where the tilt and trim connect to the engine. Drained the foot and water in the oil(milky). So do you think I have something more serious than just replacing the seals. The boat is a 2004 and has never had any seals replaced.

    Shane:

    Welcome to BBC!

When running the engine on a flush attachment, there will be water apparent in the area you described (also coming from the prop hub, and several other locations that connect to the exhaust housing, where water is exiting the engine).

I would recommend that you have your gearcase Pressure Tested, to determine where it is leaking. Any suspect or failed seals should be replaced.

While you're at it- a FRESH WATER PUMP should also be installed.

Note: If there has been water in the gear lube, DO NOT leave the case "dry". Refill it PROMPTLY with appropriate lube.
