    Transition to Ethanol-free gas ("mixing")

I ran my fuel tank low and filled up with non-ethanol gas. Someone here on BBC said that it was bad to mix the non-ethanol with "regular" E-10 I had been running. WHY would that be bad. If I mixed an equal 50/50 (for example) of E-10 and non-ethanol, that would make it like "E-5". ANy harm? I did have my tank run low before ethanol-free fill-up

The problem isn't directly related to the "final ethanol content". The concerns are directly related to the COMPATABILITY of the fuels themselves.

ALL fuels are required to be "oxygenated". The problem is, we simply have no means of knowing WHAT was used in a "non-ethanol" fuel blend to accomplish this, thus no idea of compatability.

When fuels are MIXED (especially in higher quantities), there is a potential for phase separation of the fuel, resulting in the need to DUMP the ENTIRE load of fuel, and start FRESH.

The BEST method when switching is to have your tank level as low as physically possible, PRIOR to filling. Then run the filled tank of fuel out "as soon as possible" (preferably right away).

    Plenty of discussion here:
