I have a 225 efi and the tach is reading 500-1000 rpms higher then normal, the motor doesn't sound like its anymore then normal rpms, it reads 1200 at idle and 7k at wot, but doesnt act like there's anything different. The alternator is an external one that is driven by belt off of the flywheel, I'm wondering where thevoltage regulator is and if it's built into the alternator itself? Thanks J

The voltage reg. is an internal part of the alternator. I'd guess your tach. is faulty....... Sherm
