Is the RPM limited during the first couple hour of operation on the 225 E-Tec? I have one on a Ranger Z21; at WOT I'm only able to get 5000rpm out of it. Have about 2 hours on it right now.

There is no RPM limit, what prop are you running and where is the motor on the back of the boat?
I wish I knew, I've been trying to get prop info out of my dealer since I purchased the boat.
The motor is on a 10 inch hyd jack plate set at 2 inches. Anything above that and I lose the lift on the front.
Greg, I had the same thing happen to me. First time out new Z21, 225HO, 26 Raker II prop, Bob's 10" jack plate, max 5200 RPM WOT. 3rd time out, 5400 RPM, 5th time out 5700RPM. I guess it had to loosen up a bit. How is your rig running? I am totally impressed w/ mine. 69.9 gps w/ tournament load full of gas.
I'm impressed also. Good handling, run high in the water once on plane. I'll watch out for the increase in RPM. Thanks
Running the XD100 got me a couple of hundred more RPMs as well. At least it seemed that way. ZC
You didn't say if it's an HO. Might make a difference. The HO will run higher vertically.
Greg, make sure the prop is a 26 Raker II. I had a 28 II on mind to begin with and it would only turn 5200, Changed to a 26 Raker II and it's turning 5800 now. Also had to raise the jackplate about 2.5 inches up to turn rpm's.
Sounds interesting Greg, I'm kind of in the same boat (no pun intended). 225HO with a RakerII, WOT is about 5150RPM's but pushes the Z20 at 70.8 (just won't give me that nice round 71MPH so I can say it OUT LOUD).
I've had it out a bunch, so I'm not convinced it's going to loosen up. And it's pretty much off or WOT when we run... But will be interested if you have the same experience as etbasser.
I switched to a 26 Raker original and got more rpm's and speed. Went from about 5250-5500 and 67.3-68.5. I am not running a jackplate though and it is a z20.
Make sure your getting good bow lift with your prop, if not it will have a hell of a time trying to pick up that bow so she can cut loose. Made all the difference with my TR22, I had Rich Boger work my prop and the difference in bow lift and the speed I'm getting now is phenominal compared to a stock Raker.
Just found out today, it's a 26 Raker II. I hope I get more RPM the next couple of times out.
Are these props marked anywhere? Instead of taking the deals word.
Look around the nut the size is embossed there and if its a RakerII it will be molded on the side of the prop between two of the blades.

How high are you running your motor (you said you lifted it 2+ inches - where did you end up) ? How's the water pressure at that height ?
I've got the same "problem" (?) as Greg - running 5100 - maybe 5200 if I lean the right way when I'm looking at the tachThe speed is good (just under 71MPH) but I wouldn't want to run with any lower water pressure than I have now (and I'm assuming it would drop if I raised my motor any more - it's not hydraulic, set between 2.5 & 3" above).
Just trying to figure out if I should be tweaking, or leave well-enough alone.
One other thing to keep in mind is that your tach could be off. John set my 225 H.O. up for me last year and when we had it on the laptop at Riverside, the laptop was showing 100 or so more rpms than what my tach was. That's not much, but yours could be off a little more. If you are actually turning 5400 or so, up a little on the jackplate may be all you need.
Keep the water pressure between 15 and 20 at wot and you'll be fine.

Dave, I have a hydralic Bob's Jackplate-6" and it's probably 4 inches above the transom-it;s set at about 2inches. I just kept raising it a little each trip and I'm surprised at how high it's running with no change in water pressure- about 18-20 lbs. Seems the prop shaft is 2 to 1.5 inches below the pad. I do have it on a 520, so that might make a difference. I'm running 71 to 73 gps, depending on load, and that's was in Texas heat and water, so it might pick up a little in cooler temp.
Sorry to be absent for long periods of time, just very busy. Let me get back to the prop for one second. The prop has no mold marking between the blades and I'll check for the embossing when I go out tomorrow.
At about 2 and a half inches, the nose fell off, I didn't check the water pressure at the time but as I dropped the motor back down and the nose lifted, the water pressure was between 15-20.
I took my Z21/225 Etec HO out today and played with the manual plate, at about 1.5 inches up i am hitting about 5500 rpm at 69.6 gps full load and one guy with a 26 raker II, may get to play more later in the week. I also used the Evinrude diagnostic software at my shop to do a test on the factory installed Ranger tach, it reads about 200 rpm slower than what the motor is actually turning ( my tach was only turning 5300) so you guys might want to be aware of that.

I did look at the stamped mark on the prop this weekend. It's doesn't say Raker or anything but I do have some numbers: 394756 14 1/2 X 26. Is that the part number for a Raker II?
200 lower that the Ranger Tach, interesting.................
