2000 Mercury 50 ELPTO Carb Problem?????
I have a 50hp ELPTO Merc (ser# 0t082174) I have had this motor for a few years and it has ran great. I haven't had to do any maint besides plugs and impellers. For some reason, it is getting cold natured. Even after it is warm I have to choke it and get on the throttle pretty quick, or sometimes it will die. In gear it idles about 700 rpms, but sometimes it idles rough and will die. It runs great when I get some rpms. I always run marine stabil and have checked my fuel lines for deterioration, everything looks good. I have also noticed fuel/oil ON my carbs and down my airbox. I am not sure if it pours out when I trim the motor up, or what. I have sprayed carb cleaner through the carbs, but it didn't help. Anyone seen this before?

Many times.
Almost certainly a carb problem.
Try opening the low speed (air) screw on each carb 1/4 turn COUNTERCLOCKWISE and see if it improves.
If not, STOP RUNNING IT and rebuild the carbs promptly.
Note: On your 2-stroke model, ANYTIME you have a "Fuel Delivery Problem"- you ALSO HAVE AN OIL DELIVERY PROBLEM. Continuing to run an engine that has this type of problem will eventually result in CATASTROPHIC failure.

Is there a specific "rebuild kit" from mercury for these carbs? What all is included in it? I will check the air screw tomorrow. You don't by chance have a number for the rebuild kit do ya??? Thanks!!!

Part# 8236354 is a complete "Repair Parts Kit" for ONE Carb (one required per carb).
In many cases, you need only the gasket set, and the needle.
Needle Part# 879194011
Gasket Set Part# 8112231
Sherm @ Sherm's Marine (or we) would be more than happy to assist you with these.
Email or Phone are the BEST means of contacting the Parts Department(s).

Thank you very much! I will try the low speed screw this weekend, and see what happens. If I still have problems I will go ahead and tear into the carbs.

I ended up draining the carbs and flushing out the main jets. Took her out the other day.....Problem solved. Fires right up. Must have had something floating around...... I also bought a clymer manual for this motor off amazon for $25. Money well spent.
