My local certified Mercury dealer was telling me today he talked with representatives from Mercury reference ethanol. According to him it is better to run non ethanol high test than run regular unleaded with ethanol. Owners manual says 87octane, he says run the 93. Comments please!
Reminds me of my brother that always ran 93 octane in his 302 Ford pickup. Claimed it got better gas mileage because hi-test just has to be better. Total BS. If anything premium is harder to ignite and burns cooler in a standard compression engine. That equals less peak pressure in the cylinder and less power at the prop. Lots of Myth out there regarding fuel. Anything beyond what your motor requires to prevent pre-ignition is just wasted money.

Choose fuels on the following criteria, in the following order:
1. High traffic, name brand, top-tier fuel
2. Octane rating LISTED for your engine
3. Less than 10% ethanol content (the lower, the better).
