Scraper. Da sander. Elbow grease. Beer. Rinse dry repeat. In no particular order. Seriously Thats how I did it but my carpet was 30 years old and was worn off on the deck anyway. If your rig is nice take advice from someone else.
"Goof Off" or acetone. I used goof off and it works very well.
I used acetone. Spray it on let soak a few minutes then take a scraper and some elbow grease. Not an easy job at all! Then when I was finished I took a wire wheel to the deck to clean up any remaining glue residue.
i used MEK this stuff is not joke, goof off works good too

Xylene (Lowes) will do the trick. Put it in a spray bottle, spray on, wait a couple of hours, and the carpet will peel off. Then use the orange citrus paint remover (Lowes about $19) and paint it on the glue remaining on the lids/deck with a brush. Wait 1-3 hours then use scraper and it comes up like soft butter. Your best friend will then be a box of rags/paper towels to wipe up the mess. I just did this within the last 2 weeks and it worked well.

And neither of those products harmed your gel-coat or any of the finish? I'm thinking it doesn't matter as long as it's under the area you will be recarpeting, but if you get any outside that area where it would be visible, would it damage the finish?
I sprayed the acetone out of a spray bottle and it did not harm the surrounding area....but then again, I was trying to prevent it.
The xylene and citrus stripper both work to remove the old glue. Goof off works too but a little more expensive. I sprayed xylene on with a cheap plastic sprayer, let it set for 10 or 15 minutes and the glue turned like jelly. Warn you not to use the Xylene unless you have ventilation. The stuff gave me a headache every time I used it in a pole barn. Scraped off easily. Citrus stripper works well and no bad odors, but more mess cleaning off.
I tried a little MEK but that stuff is evil. I wouldn't use it without a good filter respirator.

Depending on how old it is I found it easier to pull it off, used a rotary plastic stripper to knock off the dried glue, then used Goof-Off on the few glued spots. Tried to soak it with Goof-Off as some have done on You-Tube but it evaporates so fast it just made a mess.

I also used a floor scraper (not sharp, but heavy duty) on a push broom stick to scrape the carpet loose.
