Hypothetical senerio, to ease gear shifts

    Hypothetical scenario Don,

2001 300x OEM set idle is quite high as you know (per manual), I therefore shift gears with the motor off to help save the L/Unit, but that's not always a great plan either when allot of shifting is needed for what ever reason.

What if… ….the shift switch were wired to another switch at the dash and when loading , unloading or needing to move around in a tight space that requires several gear shifts one would turn on the switch to kill a few cylinders possibly helping the ability to make those shifts without imposing the harsh high RPM gear changes upon the L/Unit…………would there be any negative effects of a set up like this.......…..Just a thought…….

    Definitely possible, Gary.

As you may recall, something "remotely similar" was done on the earlier 3L EFI's... but it was a switch that only activated when torque on the shift linkage reached a pre-determined spring value.

The logistics/most likely to succeed method would depend on which coil design your engine is equipped with.... I'd be more than happy to brainstorm with you by phone sometime should you wish to attempt this.

Don, to get things started, S/N OT235158, 2001 300x. I have the shift slide with the switch located at the aft end of the bracket you spoke about. I'll give you a call sometime this coming week.

    Thanks,
    Gary
