    Trim Switch Stuck

    Mercury 90 ELPTO engine #OT831579
MPC 4000 Gen 2 mechanical panel control

On the water today and hit my trim up switch on the handle and the tilt started going up and would not stop. I had to uplug the solenoid to get it to stop.
My motor was in the full up position and still trying to raise.
My switch on the motor works fine up and down. I'm thinking the switch in the handle is stuck in the up position. Is this common?
Anyone know the part # for this switch?

    Thanks.

Sounds like the handle switch may be sticking/shorted (however- you also need to check the BOW MOUNTED SWITCH if you have one... 9 out of 10 times, IT is the culprit).

To obtain the correct switch, it will be necessary to have a PICTURE of the control/handle (there are a couple possible handle configurations).

    Don,

Thanks for the fast reply. I will check the bow switch this morning and will let you know if that was it or not. If not I will send you a pic of the handle.
I went through a hard rain on the way to the lake right before it started acting up.
    Thanks.

Went out this morning and plugged the relay wire back in and it was operating correctly however, I think you are correct Don in it being the bow switch. Must have gotten moisture in it. I unplugged and taped the hot wire to that switch. Do you recommend I replace that switch? Are they generic or boat specific?
    Thanks for your help.

Bow switches are usually pretty generic.... it's simply a "Momentary On, Off, Momentary On" switch.

SPDT (Single Pole, Double Throw) operation.

    Don,
Went out today with the bow switch isolated and the trim worked fine.
    Thank you very much.
