I'm in the prosses of buying a 2004 ranger 520 that has only 72 hours on boat and motor it has only been run one time in the last 2 years it has just sat coverd in a garage my question is what should i do before running the engine
what should I replace / oil /grease or check and should i set it back to factory oiling
At a MINIMUM... I'd recommend ALL ITEMS on the Annual Maintenance List (see below post):

I would DEFINITELY lubricate the air compressor with 5-10 drops of oil, as per the directions in the above post.
ADDITIONALLY, it would be VERY wise to also:
-Inspect Remote Oil Tank pickup screen for gel, debris, or contaminates
-Pump ALL fuel from tank, and start with a FRESH load of fuel
-Upgrade fuel lines, pulse pump, etc- see: http://www.bbcboards.net/zerot...first
-Drain and flush VST of old fuel (better yet, remove, disassemble, and CLEAN)
-Very good idea to consider Injector and Rail Service. See: http://www.europeanmarine.org/injectorservice.html
-An oil pump PRIME sequence isn't a bad idea... however, I don't recommend putting the engine back in Break-In mode.
