    Optimax question

I have a 2003 optimax 200. When I put it in forward it's fine but sometimes when I step on my hotfoot it jerks. The clutch seams smooth and their is no grinding sound. Just wondering if anyone would know if this could be my lower unit or something not as serious? Thank you.

    Re: Optimax question (Blobuk)

Seems as the shift control adjustment is out a little.

    Re: Optimax question (Reelsore)

Thank you for the reply. I went to a local repairman and he seems to think it might be the clutch-dog. Im not sure if he's telling the truth or just trying to make money. Does what he says sound possible?

    Re: Optimax question (Blobuk)

It is certainly possible- but the control/shift cable "freeplay" should be checked FIRST.

Shift cable adjustment should be attempted SECOND.

Also wise to inspect the shift relay arm (runs from cable attachment point to underneath the intake). This arm is commonly found to be "bent" due to someone attempting to SHIFT THE ENGINE WHEN NO RUNNING (a big "no-no").

If it turns out to be the clutch-dog what would be the cost of fixing that? Thank you for helping!

    Re: Optimax question (Blobuk)

That's a little difficult to say, as "clutch dog" leaves a lot of unaccounted variables (gear condition, bearings, seals, propshaft, etc).

If indeed it's ONLY the clutch dog that's damaged, you should be able to have that replaced for a couple hours labor, PLUS parts.

If gears or bearings are damaged, that's going to require additional time.
