    Lower unit gears?

are the gear sets the same in different gear cases example 1.62's the same in a Sportmaster, torquemaster, and fleet master..... Or are they made of stronger materials in different cases?

We'd need to specify a SPECIFIC ENGINE and specific YEAR OR SERIAL NUMBER range in order to accurately make statements to this.

In regards to LATER and CURRENT production engines, the gearsets utilized in the Sportmaster, Torquemaster, and Fleetmaster (all have the 1-1/4" Heavy-Duty Propshaft) are the same, and are interchangeable (1.62 and 1.75 ratio).

The Verado Gearcase (also sometimes referred to as a Standard or Servicemaster) is a very different animal... and interchanging of components should NOT be attempted.

Additionally... the above does not necessarily apply to gearcases produced prior to 2006 (some varied from the above general statements).

Yep, actually quite simple. My 250XS/Sporty came with 1:75 gears but I also purchsed brand new 1:62 gears. Simple swap out and you can use the same clutch dog, etc.

Rob, did you see any performance gains other than being able to run a smaller prop with the 1.62's?

    Re: Lower unit gears? (Strokerdean)

Dean, its always been my belief that these Allison hulls are better "behaved" with a smaller pitch prop. I certainly dont miss the 1:75 at all. With your hull, I think its just a matter of preference...and I mean that as a complement to the Stroker hull
