Any truth in that?

Don, is it basically in the computer or is it something else? Six HP is quite a bit of of difference in the same rated motor. JMO

BOTH. In 2006, the engine was reconfigured to run on 87 octane fuel (and that is when the change occurred).![]()

interesting...i would have guessed that the HP at the prop would have been less than the HP rating on the cowl...could you tell me what my 2003 225 EFI turns...round about??? thanks...
2003 Ranger 205VX Comanche / 2003 Mercury 225 EFI
BIA standards are that a motor must be rated HP +/- 10%. Manufacturers shoot for the high side of rating for bragging rights in OB on the water head to head tests. The standard was changed to rating at the prop over 10 years ago and it is much easier to prove because anyone can hook prop shaft to a dyno.

hey Don what about my 2002 250 proxb???????
Don't have the specs on the 225 EFI, but it was on the strong side of the 10% margin.
The 250XB's that I've seen tested were in the low VERY close to the 10% margin (274+)![]()
