    Tilt n trim leak

Is it possible to replace the outer seal on the tilt ram without a tear down of the unit?

Will any 3.0 Liter Tilt & Trim unit fit on my motor? OG913444

For the shorter TRIM rams... YES.

The TILT CYLINDER can be partially disassembled (removing the end cap w/seals, ram, and piston) from the engine, so that it can be serviced on the bench.

Most 3L Power Trim Assemblies will interchange with your engine (standard production assemblies, that is).

Recommend taking a look at the following diaghrams:

Re: Tilt n trim leak (EuropeanAM)

So I would need parts #5 "Guide Kit" and #6 "Repair Kit trim" to service the tilt ram?

Its just leaking a small amount of fluid, not enough to run down. I can just smell it whenever I trailer the boat and trim the motor up. Recently while working under there with a shop light I could see the ram wet with fluid. I have not had a problem with the rams leaking down. For a long time I thought it was lube leaking from the LU and kept checking that.

Also when I tried to check the fluid level (with the engine on the tilt lock) fluid gushed out initially and was dirty brown looking.

Just #5 "Guide Kit" in this case (components of #6 should be included in #5).

Treat leaks here seriously- anytime fluid can leak out, there's a POTENTIAL for water to also leak IN.
