Motor failure ... than came back to life

Ok.... I was running down the lake in the last tournament of the year. Motor was absolutely screaming - boat has never ran this fast before at just over 76mph -> 210 Procraft - 250 Pro XS.

Anyways... I was running about 5850rpm and then all of a sudden she dropped to 4600. Could not get anything more out of it and it sounded weird. So I ran another mile to get to our spot and figured we would just fish our way back for 15 miles. When I stopped it was idling very rough so I just turned the key off and started fishing. Good news was on the first cast I caught a 4.85lb smallie :)

Also, no alarms went off on the smart craft. After fishing for about 2 hours I started the engine just to see if we could move and it sounded fine. Ok weird... Gave it some throttle and everything went fine. Got up on plane, and it ran perfect with full power for the rest of the day.

Took it to the dealer and they said there were no codes other than a low voltage code and that there was nothing wrong with the motor.

My question is what the heck happened? Did a coil go and come back to life? (I have had all my coils replaced in 2010 August) or did a spark plug miss fire or something. (Still original plugs.. 400 hours... need new ones... Don can you hook me up).

Anyways boat is now winterized and we got about 4 inches of ice on the lakes up here so... i will deal with it in the spring.

    Oh Engine serial is 1B462826

What is the rev limiter on that motor? 6300? Don't have a clue, but I envy your luck.

Sounds just like the fuel line collapsing on the inside. How old is the boat/motor.

Check out this thread if you already haven't.

The fuel line on the suction side of the fuel pump can pinch together if the liner is coming apart. This makes for lower fuel pressure and loss of top end without causing other symptoms. After you stop things will go back to normal for a while depending on how bad the fuel line is.

Lots of other things can cause the engine to slow also but most of them won't go away.

Read the thread CAREFULLY- and address ALL recommended items (lines, primer bulb, FUEL FILTER, AND PULSE FUEL PUMP KIT).

Highly recommend catching up on the remainder of your maintenance- ESPECIALLY Spark Plugs (long overdue).
