    2006 ProXS slowing down issue

I recently purchased a 2006 TR21. I've noticed that when getting off plane and proceeding to an idle speed, the motor sounds like it's backfiring or something of the sort, like something's skipping, hard to explain. The motor just got checked out and said it passed with flying colors from a top Mercury place in Minnesota. Is this something I should be worried about or am I doing something wrong?

Very difficult to determine, based on your limited description.

No backfiring should EVER be noted in your Optimax engine. If you suspect backfiring is occurring.... I would recommend that you get this checked.

Maintenance history review would also be in order.... especially SPARK PLUGS.

This was happening on a fast flowing river. Took it out on a lake and I didn't notice this happening. Spark Plugs were replaced before I even put it in the water. Top and Lower head gaskets were replaced. European, you said I had a warranty on this motor until March, 2012. Would Mercury warranty the Top and Lower Head Gaskets that I had to get fixed, that ran me around $400-500? I have not transfered the warranty because I was unaware it had one until you said it did.

I would need to re-run your engine's serial number in order to determine that.

The FACTORY warranty would cover gaskets. Product Protection plans don't cover seals/gaskets, UNLESS the failure is caused by a "covered component".

Once the engine is properly registered to you, the current coverage SHOULD cover "defects in materials and workmanship" (including these powerhead/adapter plate gaskets).

Contact Mercury's Warranty Department with proof of ownership to transfer.

Thanks. I will be faxing things to them tomorrow. The place I purchased from, didn't put the motor VIN number on Proof of Purchase/Bill of Sale, so I have them adding it tomorrow before I fax it.
