SEI Lower Units experiences?

Lower unit on my Merc 225 EFI detonated this past weekend. As you all know reman and new LU runs $2,300 and up with 1 year warranty. SEI sells an aftermarket LU for my motor for $795 that they'll warranty for 3 years.

it sounds too good to be true, but I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with them. I saw a few complaints but it looked like the warranty covered them and they got new units. No updates as to final verdict though.

    help!!

I put a SEI lower unite on my 225 merc and haven`t had any problems yet. I just finished the 10 hour breakin they want you to do. For the money and the 3 year warranty you can`t go wrong.

if money is a issue and it's not for a super fast boat "go for it" but believe you get what you pay for!!! appearance will not be as good and flawless as a merc case but merc's gearcase price's are absolutley stupid

I don't think I have a super fast boat. It's a TR 21 that ran around 70 mph prior to the lower unit erupting.

I do not recommend "aftermarket" gearcases..... I have observed that the casting quality is not comparable, and although they "look" the same (in general), have seen several that, after teardown, had multiple machining tolerances WAY out of spec.

As crude as it sounds.... you'll literally get "what you pay for" with either gearcase choice (JMHO).
