    250XS Oil Pump Leaking

Can the oil pump on a 2003 250XS be taken apart to replace a seal or do you have to replace the whole pump. Mine is leaking from the inner lowest allen head bolt section of the housing, I just dont know if theres an o-ring in there behind the three allen head bolts that hold the front side of the oil pump housing on, or if the unit is not serviceable. Thanks

Needs to be fixed ...any kind of oil leaking from anywhere isnt good in my opinion. Mine was doing same thing .Took mine out and sent it in to be fixed.

REPLACE IT. DO NOT attempt to repair that pump!

    Part# 857149T05

Oil injection system must be BLED and PRIMED after pump is replaced.

Heres a question Don, why would that one allen head bolt be loose? It is the only one that was fairly loose and the other 2 were tight as tight could be? Bet I got 2 turns to snug up that allen head bolt that was allowing oil to seep out of it.

Numerous possibilities.... improper torque, thread degredation or corrosion, vibration, lack of thread loctite, seal degredation or damage, pump body or head distortion due to heat, etc. etc.

If after I tightened the one loose allen head bolt the leak stops, do I still need to replace the pump? Those 3 allen head bolts snug aluminum to aluminum so there must be some sort of gasket or o-ring that is made snug when those 3 bolts are tightened and the 2 parts of the housing come flush.

    That's your call.

If you're asking my opinion.... I will NEVER take a chance (or make an "assumption") when it comes to an oil pump. I personally would replace it with a new one, which has a one-year, parts and labor warranty.... and would sleep well that, and subsequent nights.
