    Polarizing Filter ...Not circular polarizing.

I have a 72mm Circular Polarizing filter that I use for every shot outdoors, some indoors. I especially like the CP filter when shooting riverbeds etc ......just like Polarizing sunglasses it allows me to "see" into the water. I have tried Neutral Density filters and while they correct the glare ...they don't have the same effect as a polarizer for water shots. Does anyone know where I can buy a polarizing filter that is NOT a Circular Polarizer? What I would like to go away from is the adjustment ring to "color correct". Is this even possible?? I would guess that it is, as polarizing sunglasses obviously don't require any adjustment. All help is appreciated. Thanks guys!!

I am nowhere near as experienced as some of the other guys here...but I had three polarizers for my old canon a1 and they all were the adjustment style you are talking about.
...though I cannot say that I ever actually shopped for one that was not that way. I just always assumed they were all that way.

If anyone would have one I would think B&H camera and Video would...they seem to have everything. They also are pretty good about answering questions etc.

I don't think you can use a non circular polarizing filter on a digital slr camera.
I think it affects the auto focus function of the camera.

I have never seen a non circular one either. It could be for the reason Curt mentioned as well as it would be a problem on any lens that has a rotating front element.

To my knowledge I have never seen anything but the round ones. That is mostly because they can be rotated on the front of the lens to give the best effect. Neutral density only reduces the amount of light that passes thru it, ie. 1 f-stop or 2 f-stop.

Circular polarizers are for use with autofocus cameras, standard polarizers(which you still have to rotate to adjust polarization) are for older/manual focus applications. The reason you have to rotate the filter is to adjust for the direction or plane of light the filter is blocking.
Next time you are outside in the sun w/ your polarized shades on, tilt your head from side to side and you will see it vary the amount of polarization just like the filter does.
Depending on where the sun is in relation to you and your subject, you will always have to rotate a polarizing filter to get the desired amount of effect. often you can find a sweet spot in which not much adjustment will be needed to achieve max polarization. I make note of where some writing on the filter is in relation to a mark on the filter mount to keep it close to where I need it.
ND filters just reduce the light going to your lens, they aren't for glare reduction.
