    vacation- bull shoals

live on Toledo Bend, going to fish white river and bull shoals on vacation mid october with wife. will be staying by dam and renting a bass boat to fish. What do you suggest for this time of year?, baits, line size, cover, structure, depth. I'm sure rental boat will have HD 10's(not) so I'm sure electronics will be minimal at best and it looks like motor size range from 90 to 115. Any info is appreciated. Guide recomendation would be nice perhaps also. Thanks.

wait until early october to see what the weather does. then ask My two cents, if you can wait and come in mid november to first of january the fishing will be better.

Fishing can be really good on Mid October!

They should be eating topwater pretty good in the creeks early in the morning and then depending on the conditions, you can catch them on a spinnerbait, or crankbait if you have some clouds and winds. If it gets bright and sunny, your best bet will be to fish a Jewel 5/8 oz football jig in PB&J in 15-25' of water and catch those big browns!

I don't know if I will have my new boat by then or not. If I do, I would be happy to take you and your wife fishing, and make you a better deal than the guides will! Not sure if I will have it by then or not though, so I don't want to make any promises!

    Re: vacation- bull shoals (Jackallfishing)

Mid October is a good time to fish but it can be really tough! Usually around then is when the fall turnover is happening so the fish will be scattered from 2feet to 60+ feet, I won a good sized tournament last October by throwing a spinnerbait along drops in the creeks and once the sun comes up I like to drag either a green pumpkin tube or green pumpkin 7/16oz eakins jig. I like to start dragging in about 20feet and work my way out until I find the right depth and I do really good of sandy flats that have a sharp taper to them then. Also a reallyyy hot thing then is jacking a 7/8 oz war eagle spoon!! You can catch em good by jerkin' a spoon over manmade prush piles or idleing over the middle of pockets in the creek arms looking for schools of shad or bass. Usually its a tad bit early for a wiggle wart to start working then but the blade bite is turning on then forsure!

If your going to the white river to trout fish you can have an absolute blast doing that!! I have the most fun catching the 6lb+ browns on a smithwick rouge or a pointer 78! Dont mess with the 12 stocked trout, I like to fish the deepest holes you can find in the river and the best time to jerkbait is when they have all of the generators going.

Yeah Earl...still waiting on my three promised trips out on Bull. Since your new Ranger isn't in yet maybe we can take your 10' canoe?

I thought I would be on Easy Street by now but somehow I missed the off ramp!
