VST?? Fuel Pump Question? Merc 225 Opti... Help?

So I replaced my Fuel pump next to the Vst myself pretty easy to do! Thanks Don for the help and parts. Now I took my boat into the shop figuring all I needed now was to have the Impeller replaced... To have my boat up and running. Got the call this morning from the mechanic and he said the fuel pump inside the Vst is receiving power but not pumping and that I need to replace that fuel pump as well??? Would you guys try cleaning the whole VST ? Or just replace the fuel pump like he suggested? Take in to consideration im just learning about these motors? Some of my other posts on here stated I bought this boat that has been sitting for 2 years! Ive owned for 1 month now and still havent drivin it! The carpet was shot and I redid that! He also told me that the motor only has 84 hours on it! I was Stoked!

All opinions welcome! Don I am sure I will be shooting you an invoice on Monday!!

    Thanks Chris

There are ways to "clean" a pump that has seized due to sitting in old/varnished fuel. However, since we already know that one pump had seized, now another pump (High Pressure) is known to have seized, COMPLETE DISASSEMBLY and cleaning of the VST is in order.

You "may" be able to have that pump cleaned... it may (or may not) recover. I've had pretty good results doing this, but there are inherent risks (mixing flammable liquids in and around a pump, and making/breaking electrical power to the pump to try and make it work CAN cause a fire if you're not VERY careful).

New pump is a safe option, for sure. You might also seriously consider having ALL of the injectors PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED (it's highly likely that there are problems in this area also).
