Has Anyone had problems @ Greers Ferry?

I have had alot of guys tell me that lately that they have been having problems @ night with some guys pulling in right on top of them. I know all the club tournaments have a rule about staying 50 yds from another boat and I was just wondering if the jackpot night tournaments was the same. I usually fish the Greers Friday night tournaments but I have been fishing Norfork Lately. In my opinion this is a public lake and it is who ever gets there 1st. I've heard that it is the same guys doing it and there reason is because they have brushpiles put out in these spots. The spots that I've heard that they have pulled in on guys are sure enough community holes.

Re: Has Anyone had problems @ Greers Ferry? (cnealfishin)

There is a fundamental problem at Greers and every other tournament lake in the country. Angler "A" put out brushpiles. They catch fish on brushpiles. There is a short window of time that goes by that the locations of these brush piles remain a secret. Angler "B" either follows them out or sees the location of the piles, or just stumbles onto them while out fishing. Angler "B" now has a new fishing spot. Angler "B" gets to share a new fishing spot with Angler "A". They both catch fish for a while, then Anglers "C-Z" find the brushpiles the same way Angler "B" did, and now they all have fishing spots. Angler "A" gets fed up with having to share "his" spot, and puts out a new brushpile. Anglers "B-Z" wonder why they no longer see Angler "A" and begin a new mission to find out why he's bringing in fish again. The chain starts all over. Granted, it doesn't happen exactly this way and its not always this cut and dried. But when you do anything to public water to enhance a fishing spot, then this is the risk you run. We are in a new age. Paper maps and time running around the lake to learn it have been replaced with GPS and Satellite imaging.

I agree with you . If a boat is setting somewhere I want to fish I don't run in and start fishing on top of him. I just move on to the next hole. My understanding these guys are getting within 15 yds of the other boat and casting right on top of the other guys. There has been at least 5 different boats this has happened to. I feel like these guys that are doing this is hurting themselves and running down there name.

If you are a "brushpile fisherman" and build them in the right spots, somebody will find them and fish them. I know where several piles are and I fish them even though I didn't build them however I won't go to them unless there isn't anybody fishing them.

Like Mark said, with the electronics we have now, finding a pile is very easy and a push of the button and you'll find it again and again....

Pull something like that to me and we'll have problems. If I'm there first, I don't care if you've been fishing there for 20 years. Until I leave, it's my spot.

I feel like if Im going to spend the time to put B-piles out Im not going to put them in the most common community holes because someone pulling a jig or a carolina rig will find them quickly. I imagine if these guys keep this mess up they will get whats coming to them. " 1 thing to always remember its a Public Lake"

It is not only a night issue. The last two tournaments I have fished this year at Greer's both times I have had boats come in on me and put down right in front of me. I would be going down a bank in a cove, another boater come in on plane, shut down, and fish.

Fishing is much more than casting and retrieving and playing your catch. It's the wind in your face and the sound of wakening birds as the sun peeks over the horizon. It's discovering the magic in each new place and unlocking the mysteries that lure above and below the surface.

Nothin' pizzes me off worse than when I'm fishing an area to have someone drop in front of me. I don't care about the 50 yd. rule - to move in front of someone is just plain rude.

When me and Mark fished DeGray, we seeked out people to "run-in-on". Made a whole day out of it.
We had these fellers beside themselves Furious!! They got so pissed they couldn't see straight.
Thats a true story...Their eyesight was at least 1/16th off.

Had somebody cut in front of me like that once...I fired up the motor, got back in front of them and dropped the trolling motor, closer to them than they did to me. Gave me some bad looks when a popped up on plane "fairly" close to them and set right back down in front...I was HOT! If they had repeated the process, we would have been fighting...

I have a bad habit of not trimming down prior to attempting to launch when I decide to leave an area.

You'de think I notice the exhaust was out of the water due to the sound.
But, sometimes I just don't hear it and try to launch anyway.

Just hope nobody pulled in on me TOO close when I try to leave.
I'll even come back and apologize.
BUT ya ain't gettin' my towels.

Re: Has Anyone had problems @ Greers Ferry? (SkeeterDD22)

Son and I were fishing a point at Maumelle a couple of years ago, when a couple of guys rounded the corner, saw us, and did a U-turn by my boat before settling in about 50 yds. from us. As I was yelling at him, up comes the game warden and proceeds to give him a proctological exam - boat check, fish measure, ect..... Evidently he'd seen the unsportmanlike conduct of the two anglers. Officer had him tied up the better part of 45 minutes. As my son and I were leaving to go to another area - he looked at me and said "serves him right for being a jerk".

A older guy i knew pretty well named Parker Woods use to fish up here on Beaver all the time, and if someone did that to him he would pull up next to them and have a talk with them. If that did no good he would get over in the boat with them and beat the living crap out of them and make them like it. Parker had a massive heart attack a couple of years ago and died,so we don't have him around anymore to keep some of these guys in line on that crap.He really was a good guy and would do anything for you,but you didn't cut in on him while he was fishing a spot.

it goes on everywhere, but it is way worse in other parts of the country. I fished a tourney in NC last year out of buggs island, a 100 boat open tourney, and a BFL was coming out of the southend of the lake, The bent pole pattern was the prominent way to catch fish,

    Re: (lasabre)

this is rude guys. i will agree with that, but there is nothing you can do about it. read the rules closer and you find out in order for the 50 yrd rule to work you must be anchored with trolling motor in upright position. i'm not taking up for these guys and i would never do this to someone. i can't stand to fish side by side with another boat. truth is, though, if your not anchored it's all fair game. we run tx out of sugar loaf and i have'nt had any problem with this yet, but i've heard at devils fork it is a regular occurrence. to me it's just a matter of sportmanship and some people don't have any.

    Re: (weekend warrior)

I've got no tolerance for folks pulling up on me either, but the subject does bring up a point or two:

1)If you see someone fishing a long stretch of bank, just how much space on that bank should be given before it's ethically OK to fish. I fished as a no-boater in a BFL once and the boater was fishing along a stretch of bank. Another boat pulled up to a point about 200 yards in front of us and started fishing. My boater started complaining that they cut him off and blew out of there cussing. The other boat was fishing a point, and he was flipping a shoreline, so how would they know he was headed to fish that point?

    2) If you see someone fishing an area that you're unfamiliar with, why would it not be OK to go back later and check what they were fishing after they leave? I'd never pull up on a person while they're there, but if I see a guy hanging out on one spot for a while when I'm fishing something else or running from spot to spot; is there something wrong with making a mental note of where he's at and checking it out after he's done?

    Re: (dowhatta)

    1. If you see a boater running the troller down a bank, I wouldn't cut him off. I do think 200 yds. is more than enough distance if it's a different type of structure. I'll be courteous - but the boater just cost himself almost a quarter mile of bank that could have been productive. I expect others to be courteous - but not a mind reader. If I know an area holds fish - I'll often stay in the area even if I've been cut off. I don't know what the other boat is throwing and nothing tickles me more than pulling solid fish behind someone that's cut me off.

    2. If I see someone parked on an area for quite a while - if it looks interesting, I'll come back when they're gone to see what the attraction was and mark it on GPS. I won't move in on them while they're there - but it's a great place to mark hot spots for a later tourney or day fishing. Once you've left - the area's fair game.
