    Fort Smith

I'm moving from Alabama to Fort Smith, AR next week. From what I've seen on the map there's plenty of lakes around there. Some of the people I've spoken with mentioned Tenn Killer a lot. What type of lake is it? Is is a deep clear lake or a shallow muddy lake?

The Ft. Smith park looked nice with a ramp on the Arkansas River. How is the fishing there and how is the river to run?

If anyone is from the area could the recommend any bass clubs?

I drove by the Ranger dealership, so I was glad to see that (I've got a 188VX).

    Thanks for any feedback.

    Re: Fort Smith (harris)

    IM sent.

We have a bunch of good places to fish around here (both in Arkansas and Oklahoma). Tenkiller is a good lake if you don't mind dodging lake lice and drunk wakeboarders. Eufaula is better during the summer because you can get out of the main lake and avoid a lot of traffic. Lots of smaller lakes around that are overlooked. I sent you my cell number. Give me a call when you get in town and we'll get together...

When running the AR river, the only thing you need to remember is: There's lots less boat parts in the water the faster you go....thus reducing the posibility of hitting stuff.

From what I've heard during my trip up there it doesn't sound like many people fish the Arkansas River. I did notice on the Ranger dealership's website in Ft. Smith there are Tuesday night tournaments out of Fort Smith Park.

From what I saw of the river it reminds me of sections of Neely Henry down here. I'm looking forward to moving out there, looks to be lots of good fishing in the area.

On the contrary, the river gets hammered. Lots of pressure during the year.

I found that statement odd as well because as soon as the person told me that I saw a bass boat go by. Also, since the Ranger dealer in town has a tournament schedule posted for the river I figured somebody got to be fishing out there.

    Re: Fort Smith (wildkat7)

The river runs the entire width of the state from west(Fort Smith) to east/southeast(Dumas area). Probably every pool on the river has some kind of weeknight tournament and most weekends some club or charity or organization is holding a tournament on the Arkansas River.
This is the same Arkansas River where Rick Clunn set the BASS Classic record back in the 80s...but due to pressure, it also is not the same. "River Rats" have had to learn to adapt. College Bass Championships have been held here recently on the River system.
Just be careful....stay in the channel and remember, if you head out of a channel to go fish a rock jetty or shoreline feature, best to idle and watch depth as there can be submerged rock jetties as well.
