    Question on Vessel View/Merc Monitor

I have a 2010 200 Pro XS and I am thinking about getting either the vessel view or the merc monitor. Can't decide between the two. Is it worth the money and how will it effect my regular guages? Will they become inop, just for show? Any feed back would be great and any pics for mounting ideas if available.

Re: Question on Vessel View/Merc Monitor (Florida1)

I have the merc monitor on my rig. It is definitely worth the money.

It is the only gage I need, as it can do the same things all my other gages do. It does not require you make the other gages non-functional, as it can work right along with them.

The main reason I got mine is it shows the alarms on the engine, and not just a warning beep. If you want, it can also calculate mpg, and mile to empty, if you have it hooked to the fuel sender (may require a separate harness) and a gps input from your depthfinder/gps unit. It can also tell you the level in your remote oil tank on the boat if you want (uses same harness as fuel).

I left my stock gages intact and working, as there would be too many holes in my dash to fill, but again, anything they tell me, I can also see on the merc monitor by switching screens. By leaving them working, I can see a lot of info at once. In fact, the only stock gage info that requires me to switch screens on the merc monitor would be fuel level & battery voltage.

There are also customizable screens on it, so you can have it show what you want to see most, thus elimnating some screen switching.

It is also very good for telling you actual engine temp, for engine warm up and cool down.

Let's see if Mark has a picture for you.

If your boat uses standard size Speedo or Tachometer (3-3/8" hole)... you can replace EITHER the tach or the speedo with a MercMonitor.

The Vessel View (though a FANASTIC instrument) is a little overkill for a fishing boat (JMHO). Besides, the MercMonitor will do 90+% of what you can do with the Vessel View (and for a LOT LESS money).

Email or call me if you would like to discuss a setup for your boat.

Don't have any pics right now, but I simply replaced the stock speedo with mine.

I also reused the deep chrome bezel that was on the speedo, so it looks factory.

Only issue I had with that is the backside of the speedo hole isn't level, and I need to make a spacer to keep the merc monitor 100% solid. Right now, it will spin some of you are agressive with the buttons on it.

I'll try and get a better pic in the next day or so if ya want.

You can kinda see it in this pic
