There should be a TAN wire in the ignition switch harness. This is the "temp sender" signal wire for gauge use.

On your engine, temperature is BEST measured on Smartcraft!
If you're attempting to use an analog gauge, the same "tan" wire provides the temp signal (on yours, it would be located in the instrument harness).

I wondered about that to. I will tell you after you install it you will see why, those gauges will give you all the information you need to know, about that high dollar motor. One of the best investments I ever made and probably kept me from serious motor damage. Should have had( them or one) from the day I bought the boat.![]()
What all does it tell. For what it cost it should have GPS,Cell phone,DVD,......well you get the picture.![]()

It will allow you to monitor critical operational data. Honestly.... about $1500 of the price of your engine was the PCM attached to the side of it.... which is Smartcraft Ready. It's borderline "silly" that a gauge to communicate with the system isn't installed during rigging!
Information available on your engine is outlined in the following website (for the MercMonitor):

Information on the Data Level 1 and Data Level Two NMEA-2000 Gateway Versions (and what data is carried to or from the GPS) can be found here:

We'll be glad to assist you with proper setup, and determining what features you do, or do not need.![]()

No disrespect Don so please don't take it that way and if you think there is something else please let me know but I don't see that it has anything else that I need that my Z9 don't have exept water temp. I cant see paying that much coin for a water temp gauge even though is has some pretty colors. If there is something else that I am missing please let me know because I do want to take care of my investment.![]()
.........the MercMonitor has the capability to do numerous functions that the factory guages will not. Go to the page on the MercMonitor and you will be impressed. I have spoken with Don a few times on the functions of mine and the setup on my engine. I will say that I am impressed more and more everytime I take out the boat as to what the gauge will do..............JMHO......................RR![]()
"Never argue with an idiot; He will beat you to death with stupidity"
Some of the key functions the MercMonitor gives you that you CANNOT get (or cannot get accurately) from your analog gauges:
-Engine RPM (digital, dead-on accurate)
-Hours of Operation
-Engine Temp
-Water Pressure (that's seldom subject to freezing problems)
-ENGINE FAULT INFORMATION (including expanded fault info for 2007-> models, for the most commonly occurring "user addressable" faults). ***
*** This item is perhaps one of the most helpful. Rather than just hearing "BEEP... something's wrong", you may actually be able to SEE what the fault is, and in some cases, read "More Info" to see how you might address the item, or what action to take.![]()
