Looking at buying a 2001 20xd with a 2001 200 merc optimax xs. Owner says it will not come out of the hole very well, but other than that, it runs good. I would think it should jump out of the hole with a 24" prop. Gonna test drive this Friday. Motor has a torque master lower unit. Motor does look low to me. Sounds like it may have a reed problem, but I am not sure what reeds this motor has since it is a merc racing motor. All opinions welcome.
Something sounds very wrong with either the set up or the engine. I ran a 25 Trophy on my old rig with a 200 and it had a great holeshot and ran upper 70's top end loaded to fish.
Does the al stand for Alabama. How hole are plugged in the prop

Just a suggestion but when you test drive it if its sluggish and bogs on take off try it with all 4 holes open. It should do fine with a 24p prop. I had a 27p trophy plus on my 21XD with a 225efi and the holeshot was bad on it. It would blow water real bad and not get on plane but i plugged all my pvs holes solid and the holeshot was great then. Mabey if you play with the pvs plugs that will fix you up. Where are you located I live in Stevenson AL I'm off guntersville lake.

Just an observation, someone correct me if im wrong....there was not a 200xs available in 2001. The first XS ever produced was the 2003 250xs.
There are alot better props out there than a trophy too.....

If its a 2001 it would be an efi motor I believe that's what my 2001 was.

Optimaxs came out around 99 or 2000 I think. It isn't a "xs" but it could still be a optimax.

98 was the first big year for the regular opti. 98 and 99 was iffy at best. Dad did have a flawless 99 but he was lucky.
