i have launched in 2 ft and at Okie and other shallow lakes, I ran in 1 1/2 foot but would set down in 2 -3 ft. skeg wear or paint scratches will happen. i still have mine looking almost new. I do trim up and try to protect the foot / prop

me too I try to jump on it in 3+ft but I have gotten on it in 2 ft. but you better have a prop to push you up and not bog.

It comes down to 3 things:

    1. How familiar you are with the area.
    2. Type of prop.
    3. Size of your balls.

    Re: running shallow water (Bullet3119)

I ran my 21XD 250XS in skinny water all of the time. With a Hyrdomotive and hydraulic plate, I could get out of the hole quick in 18" of water and ran across large flats 12" deep to get to fishing areas.

I gave up several Mph to set it up for that, but since I rarely fish deeper than 4 feet and run reaL skinny tidal water, it was well worth it.

I'm currently running a 17 FlatsFlite with a DF 90. I lost 35mph leaving the Bullet, but I have a 7" draft and I have access to water that I didn't have at low tide. I miss the speed and space, but for my fishign style, it's a better choice. Plus saltwater is not an issue either.

Re: running shallow water (PA Officer)

5' is considered deep down here. If you are in mud, the skeg wear will be minimal. A sandy bottom will shine it up real quick. My rule of thumb is to get to at least 2' of water for holeshot to avoid bottom contact with the lower unit. Also, if you plan on fishing skinny water, drop 1 or 2 pitch sizes to increase holeshot.
